Commemorative Banknote of the Year with KINEGRAM COLORS® patch from KURZ

Fuerth/Germany, 11/05/2017: This year's High Security Printing Asia conference took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 3rd to 5th December 2018. The conference not only presented the latest techniques and technologies for the production and issue of banknotes and government documents across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, but also once again hosted the Regional Banknote Awards ceremony.

KURZ and OVD Kinegram are delighted to congratulate the Bank of Korea and KOMSCO for winning the prestigious 'Commemorative Banknote of the Year' Award, with the beautiful Commemorative Banknote for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Peter Muehlfelder, Head of Business Area Security at KURZ and Managing Director of OVD Kinegram, and Tod Niedeck, Corporate Marketing Director of Crane Currency, graciously accepted the award on behalf of the project partners.

This exceptional banknote was produced in close collaboration between the Bank of Korea and KOMSCO as well as KURZ, who supplied a sophisticated foil patch as one of the two principal security features, the other being a Motion thread from Crane Currency. The delicately designed foil patch of KURZ marked the first ever combination in a live banknote of the highly sophisticated KINEGRAM COLORS® visual technology and the technically complex, unique KINEGRAM ZERO.ZERO® partial metallization technology. Its design in a minute and appealing snowflake shape relates to the winter sports and snow theme of the banknote. The patch uses four colors: red, gold and blue triangles with an oblique angle viewing effect, interspersed by silver hexagons, are overlaid by an intricate network of fine lines and black Korean letters, which form the motto of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games: 'Passion. Connected'.

The proprietary KINEGRAM ZERO.ZERO® partial metallization technology allows for the thin web of fine lines and highly precise, fine metallized shapes. The design, R&D and production teams at KURZ worked hard to successfully create a visually appealing, technically functional, and crowd-pleasing foil feature which was turned into a beautiful end product, applied successfully and within tight deadlines.

The prestigious Commemorative Banknote of the Year Award marks a great success for the entire project team and all KURZ colleagues, and is a wonderful incitement for KURZ to continue the strive for constant innovation and excellence.
