First Legal Tender Banknote with a KURZ THREAD issued by Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP)

On 9th November 2021 Poland’s central bank, Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP), issued a new collector banknote commemorating Prof. Lech Kaczyński, the former President of the Republic of Poland. The currency issued by the NBP – including collector banknotes and coins – is legal tender in Poland. The new banknote, titled ‘Lech Kaczyński – It is Worth Being a Pole’, has a face value of PLN 20 (złoty).

This commemorative banknote, limited to 80,000 pieces, is secured with a KURZ THREAD, a windowed-security thread with proprietary KINEGRAM COLORS® structures in a paper substrate. KURZ THREADS are produced by the market leading and independent security feature supplier LEONHARD KURZ in Germany. KINEGRAM® stripes and patches from KURZ are highly sophisticated and advanced, proven in circulation on billions of banknotes around the globe. Security foils and threads by KURZ with KINEGRAM® technology are superior not only in terms of their anti-counterfeiting features, but also their attractiveness, offering an unrivaled versatility and a huge number of design options.

Thanks to the proven KINEGRAM COLORS® technology, as used on the new English pound sterling banknotes, the first KURZ THREAD in circulation in Poland offers a combination of metallization and perfectly aligned colors. In this case the diffractive security thread is vertically divided into two colors. The inscription ‘20 zł’ within the security thread is demetallized and interact, like the colors, with the overall banknote design. Thanks to the relatively wide windows in the paper substrate (4.5 mm) the KINEGRAM® FLUX effect can showcase its full potential with striking crosswise left and right movement effects. These non-holographic KINEGRAM® movement effects combined with two different colors make the first KURZ THREAD in circulation in Poland easy to authenticate and communicate, but also hard to counterfeit at the same time.
